OVU Compass is an orientation program for all new OVU students (freshman, transfers, commuters, residents). Your first year at Ohio Valley University is very important to your ultimate success as a college student. We've carefully designed this program with many exciting first year activities to help you to get the most out of your time on campus.

The major components of the First Year include:

  • COMPASS: New Student Orientation the first week, designed to familiarize you with OVU policies and culture, and to help you meet new friends and university staff.
Transfer Students: It is recommended that you participate in all Compass Orientation activities.
  • UNIVERSITY 101: designed and coordinated by Student Success staff, and taught by various faculty, who will--along with a student mentor--guide and provide you opportunities for personal reflection and enhancing your life and study skills.
NOTE: The highlighted activities on the schedule below (also marked with an asterisk) are considered part of your attendance for University 101 and will comprise approx. 15% of your grade.

When Should I Arrive?

All new students are to check in between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on August 17.

  • If you did not pre-register in June or July, you will be registering on August 17.
