Vienna, W.Va.—On October 4, OVU’s Cross-Country and Track & Field teams will participate in Heart Walk, a signature fundraising event for the American Heart Association held at Parkersburg City Park, Parkersburg, WV. Thanks to OVU, walkers this fall will benefit from the expertise of elite college runners.
“This is a great opportunity to connect with and serve the local community,” says Brian Hesson, OVU’s Head Cross-County and Track and Field Coach. Kay Grose, OVU’s Director of Community Relations, adds, “Our athletes will assist participants in performing pre-walk stretches, engage with children in enthusiastic games, run alongside participants on the track as encouragement, and distribute water at hydration stops.”
The annual event promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun-filled, family environment. Heart Walk celebrates participants who commit to fighting cardiovascular disease and stroke in their own lives as well as from donors who support their efforts. This year, more than 1 million walkers will participate in some 300 events nationwide, raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 5 killers – heart disease and stroke.
