Vienna, W.Va.—The future is bright for Ohio Valley University Soccer!
Although the season has come to a close, both the men’s and women’s soccer teams accomplished results that were previously unheard of at OVU.
The men’s team advanced to the Midwest Regional final of the 2017 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championships before falling to Rockhurst University 1-0 in double overtime. The women’s team suffered a 3-0 loss to Bellarmine University in the first round of the Midwest Regional tournament.
In addition, the men’s team was ranked in the top-25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll for a record-setting eight consecutive weeks. The Scots finished the year ranked as the #6 team in the final national poll. On the women’s side, OVU was nationally ranked for the final four weeks of the season finishing at #20.
The hardware and recognition continue to roll in for both programs. Three members of the women’s team (freshman Konstantina Giannou, sophomore Paula Valbuena and sophomore Ana Da Costa) were awarded All-Midwest Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. The men’s team celebrated with a record five athletes awarded. Those payers were (junior Ignacio Diaz, redshirt-sophomore Nicolas Rodriguez, junior Celso Riveros, sophomore Guillermo Segovia and senior Carlos Rubio).
Congratulations to Head Coach Luis Rincon, his staff and their student-athletes for the wins on the pitch this season!.
