OVU Faculty Promotions announced
VIENNA, W.Va. (October 30, 2015)— Associate professors Gordon Wells and Carolyn Sturm have been promoted to the rank of professor, OVU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. C. Joy Jones has announced. Both teach in OVU's College of Arts and Sciences.
“Gordon and Carolyn have both served on the faculty at Ohio Valley University for many years. They are well-respected by their colleagues and have endeared themselves to our students and alumni for decades. We congratulate them both on this well-deserved achievement,” said Dr. Jones.
Sturm recently celebrated over 50 years of teaching in the classroom and was the recipient of OVU’s 2015 Spirit of Excellence award. She currently serves as the coordinator of writing programs in the OVU College of Arts & Sciences and the coordinator of the secondary education English program in OVU’s College of Education Arts and Sciences. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Lipscomb University, a master of education degree from Memphis State University and a specialist in education designation from George Peabody College. Sturm has also been named to Outstanding Educators of America and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Sturm and her husband Dwight reside in Washington, W.Va.
Wells currently serves as chair of the school of mathematics and sciences in OVU’s College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Marshall University and a master of science degree from Florida State University. Wells has also completed additional doctoral work at the University of Michigan. He and his wife Carolyn reside in Vienna, W.Va.
