As a student at Ohio Valley University, you have the option to choose from a wide variety of pre-professional degree tracks that will successfully equip you for graduate or professional school. These undergraduate degree tracks are among the most rigorous we offer. While you achieve your bachelor’s degree, you’ll be preparing to take the entrance exams that lead to many well-paying professional careers.

Many students who attend OVU plan on going to law school and indicate a desire to major in “pre‑law.” However, the American Bar Association has no recommended “pre‑law” undergraduate degree; instead, it recommends you major in something you find interesting and challenging, and that gives you an opportunity to strengthen your research and writing skills (source). You can major in just about any academic discipline at OVU and be well-prepared to take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), a key component for acceptance into law school. OVU alumni are successfully working in a variety of professional legal careers—from private practice and consulting to business and governmental service.

Students at OVU complete prerequisite courses necessary for professional programs through the majors recommended to the left. Our faculty advisors will help you pick the best coursework, electives, and extracurricular activities to increase your chances of being admitted to your professional program of choice.
Competition for admittance into professional programs is difficult, and there are no guarantees you’ll get in once you graduate. However, OVU graduates are well-prepared and have a proven track record of successful admittance into a variety professional programs.
While you’re at OVU you’ll want to focus on ways you can make yourself stand out from your peers while you pursue your bachelor’s degree. You’ll explore many opportunities to fill leadership roles and create independent projects to help you build your college portfolio.
